"Why is Greg Abbott Wasting our Money?"

Michael Hurta is a 3rd year Gov't Major at the University of Texas. He volunteers and Interns at Campaigns. He wrote this Article that was published in the Burnt Orange Source and his opinions are his own. He is upset that Greg Abbott is filing a lawsuit with some other Attorney Generals against the bill the president signed on the New Health Care Reform. Hurta says Abbott sees a problem with the individual mandate that is a constitutional problem with the bill, and Abbott believes the mandate is a problem because "it expands the commerce clause farther than ever before." But Hurta says this wont be a problem until 2014. And believes the whole lawsuit goes against the 10th amendment, according to the constitution( restates the Constitution's principle of federalism by providing that powers not granted to the national government nor prohibited to the states by the constitution of the United States are reserved to the states or the people.) Hurta is saying us citizens(the People) tax money is being wasted by Greg Abbott on a lawsuit that has no effect on the economy right now, when he says there are more important things to address right now like overcrowding of prison populations and the Death penalty. Hurta gives another link to click on and read more on Greg Abbotts thoughts, and even sides with Republicans by stating "Even Republicans have to wonder what chance does Texas have of winning?" This was very convincing to me especially when Hurta brings up prison overcrowding, and stuff like that that is a big problem in the United States. It does make me think that our Attorney Generals should be trying to help bigger problems in our economy with us people instead of fighting within themselves. Its kind of disappointing to know that we have to spend our hard working money on bickering when we should be trying to help our nation.

Judge in Houston rules death penalty unconstitutional

According to the website fox7news.com "A judge in Houston has granted a pre-trial motion declaring the Death Penalty unconstitutional." The judge is state district judge Kevin Fine. He is a recovering cocaine addict and has more tattoos than most people. Judge Fine Ruled the death penalty in the case of John Greene Jr. who was accused of shooting and killing a woman and injuring her sister. Rick Perry, Abbott, and District Attorney Patricia Lycos are mad about judge Fines ruling. Governor Rick Perry quoted in response to this "Like the vast majority of Texans, I support the death penalty as a fitting and constitutional punishment for the most heinous crimes." I think this is really interesting, brings up a lot of issues that made me think a little harder about.
